As a CPT and coach, it is important for me to maintain my health and physique. I keep this in mind when not only choosing where I travel, but what I bring when I pack my bag, and what activites I plan on my itinerary. Below is my full personal Mexico Vacation itinerary plus some tips on how to get some R&R and not return home needing a full vacay detox!
Going to a hot spot like Cabo makes for an easy packing list with bikinis, light weight workout gear, and cute and flowy sun dresses. We decided to only bring on carry-on luggage, to avoid any luggage mishaps, which meant I really needed to be strategic on what I chose to bring.
What I packed:
3 Workout Outfits (All Vuori for their lightweight breathable material)
3 Bikinis
1 One piece bathing suit
1 Pool Coverup - dress
1 Pool Cover up - knit skirt/shirt set
1 Cotton Bandage Dress
1 Stretchy Two Tone Dress
1 Flowy Pant set with crop tank
1 Matching short/shirt set
1 Long Orange Flowy Sundress
2 Skirt/Crop shirt sets
1 Pair of Nike tennies
1 Pair of lace up heels
2 Pairs of cute slides
2 Sun brim hats
1 Baseball hat
Itinerary:
Day 1:
3 PM: Arrive at the gorgeous Chileno Bay Auberge Resort. I skipped the optional welcome cocktail but enjoyed the complimentary appetizers in our room while I unpacked a few "must hang" pieces,
4 PM: Enjoyed exploring the grounds to get a lay of the land.
6 PM: Dinner at Comal - Ordered Red Snapper with a Skinny Spicy Margarita. They offer a version of a Mexican biscuit with butter. I had a bite, because I think it's important to TRY all the things... while still being mindful of your overall food consumption!
Day 2:
7 AM: Wake up when my body let's me, enjoy my travel pack of Every Day Dose Mushroom coffee *being consistent with my normal morning routine while away.
8 AM: Walk to find a film location for my workout and complete my 30 minute circuit sweat sesh.
9 AM: Hit the smoothie bar at El Molino for a fresh fruit and protein smoothie (I dislike big breakfasts, especially when I know I will be eating "vacay foods").
10:00 AM: Pool time, play with kids, read book - November 9 by Colleen Hoover (10/10 ⭐️).
1 PM: 1 Carne Asada Taco (skip the crema) and Fresh Sea Bass Ceviche at TNT (Tacos and Tequila) + 1 Non-Alcoholic Beer + handful of tortilla chips/guac.
*I have found that too much day drinking leads to me being lazy and groggy, so I choose wisely!
3 PM: Head back to room to shower and chill in AC because it was HOT (UV 11 ☀️) - Lathering in my sunscreen constantly!
5 PM: Get ready for dinner with glass of wine and a great playlist.
6:30 PM: Dinner at YAYA - Orderned Blacked Stripe Bass + 2 glasses of red wine. Tried a bite of their puffy tortilla appetizer and a bite of dessert - cookie with ice cream.
Day 3:
7 AM: Mushroom Coffee and sunshine meditation.
7:30: Took a dip in the Pacific Ocean, adjacent to the hotel, there is a swimming beach. Perfect for all the water activities in their Guest Casita
8 AM: Breakfast at Comal - Ordered the avocado scramble and green juice, skip the coffee and mimosa.
9 AM: Opted for a Private pilates class, Marie was the instructor and she was wonderful , the fee was reasonable ($25), and it was fun and challenging!
11:00 AM: Spa Time at The Well! I opted for the facial while my hubs got the massage. Enjoying the amenties after was a must! I liked the Himalayan salt room and cold plunge the best!
1 PM: Hit the pool after picking up my youngest from the kids club. I opted to keep it light with hummus and tatziki with crudite. I was also given a fresh watermelon skinny margarita from a friend, and could not resist the gesture...so good I had to get another!
3 PM: I was in the mood for some protein so I ordered the Mangoro (Ahi) Tostada. I highly recommend!
4 PM: Nap time...Did I mention day drinking gets me tired?
6:30 PM: Adult dinner off-resort at Manta at the Cape a Thompson Hotel - I ordered the Short Rib Ban Mi tacos (amazing) plus we did a massive tasting of most of the menu with a split bottle of Spanish red wine. This was probably my "big eating night". A taste of everything on top of my own food, so I made sure to enjoy a little leisurely walk upon our return to Chileno Bay.
Day 4: Our last full day!
7 AM: Mushroom coffee, as I walked to hit the gym for some weights and cardio in the air conditioned fitness center.
*The gym at Chileno bay is comparable to any high end fitness center. With machines and functional training equipment there was more than enough to have an amazing workout.
8:30 AM: Walk to adjacent swimmable beach to snorkle with the entire party. The fish were literally right off shore, which was great for my little one.
9 AM: Hit up El Molino again for a fresh and light protein smoothie.
10:30: Finished my book by the pool, swam, and lounged.
12:30 PM: Ordered food by the pool. I opted for 2 fresh fish tostadas (Mangoro and Hamachi) ... absolutely incredible!
3 PM: With as hot as it was and a UV of 11, everyone went back to the room to cool off and watch the Olympics before our last dinner at the resort.
6 PM: Dinner at Yaya - I ordered the Paella and yes, I think everone needs to have Paella in Mexico! I could only eat 1/2. We paired with a bright white wine.. 2 glasses, followed by a shared cookie dessert.
Day 5:
7 AM: Mushroom coffee, filmed my last full body 30 minute workout on the cliff overlooking the ocean, so picturesque! Linked here -https://youtu.be/HInNCYMg6ig
8 AM: Breakfast at Comal - I ordered the steak and eggs after being relentlessly told it's amazing, but felt so full after. Not ideal, but I was traveling by plane this day and new I was not going to be eating anything "real" for some time.
11:00 AM: Depart for the flight home! PS. Lots of water on the plane!
Healthy Tip #1 Move your body
As a certified health and fitness trainer, I can tell you, you will NOT lose your gains by taking 4 days off from exercising. However, exercise isn't always just to look good, but to feel good as well. It is a mental and emotional release, just as much as it is a physical one. If movement is important to you, make sure you check out the resort fitness center and the specialty classes they offer. I opted for pilates but there plethora of other activities available like yoga, in-pool spin, crossfit, trx, and more.
I beleive it is best to "time block" at least 30 minutes in the morning. before your day becomes inundated with too much fun. Break a sweat in the morning and continue to move throughout the day. Walk when you can. play in the pool, snorkle, swim in the ocean, and opt to take the stairs.

Your body will thank you!
Healthy Tip #2: Just the right amount of indulgence
Picking and choosing your indulgences is essential on your vacation. Vacation is not a time to count calories, but make mindful choices! Enjoy, relax, and taste all the amazing foods your location has to offer. The food and flavors are unmatched at Chileno Bay Resort. They had so many fresh offerings- fish, vegetables, pico de gallo, guacamole, ceviche, beef, etc.
An ideal way to navigate your food over the course of the vacation is to go light and heavy depending on the meal. First and most important, try and find protein in each main meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Personally, I like a light breakfast like a protein smoothie or greek yogurt and fruit. Throughout the day, try not to snack on too much like chips or fried foods. Opt for fresh fruits, veggies, ceviche, tacos without extra cream and sauces... For dinner look for lean protein options. Be mindful of the amount you are eating and if you are drinking alcohol as well. More about alcohol in my best tip! For dinner I like to try all the things so, a bite of the appetizer, and a bite for dessert, yes please! You ARE on vacation so no need for crazy restrictions.
Healthy Tip #3: Cheers to Vacation
Alcohol can be a tricky topic for some. For those who do not drink, this section will not matter too much. For those who do, and really like to on vacation, listen up. You CAN live a healthy lifestyl and still indulge in drinking. Day drinking all day then into the night is definely not optimal for your health or waistline... sorry, but it's true. I recommend if you are day drinking, skip it at night, and visa-versa. If you are opting to spread it out lightly over the whole day and night, drink plenty of water, move your body in the morning, and skip the super fatty, friend foods. Skip the sugary blended tropical juice drinks, and focus on protein, veggies, and healthy fats. Your drink is now your carb.
I hope this article was helpful in some way whether you are visiting the Chileno Bay Resort or planning your own tropical vacay! Tune in for more vacation locations and how I was able to keep focused on my goals, while still having fun!
XO,
Chanel Marie
